South Africa skipper, said that successfully chasing nearly 300 in order to defeat India has been a “massive thing” for his team after a loss to England, and English bookmaker services can understand his excitement.

 

Having needed13 in order to win in the last over off Ashish Nehra, seamer, South Africa was able to find a star in Robin Peterson, who stole16 runs off the first four balls, helping his side be able to overhaul India’s 296 all out, as seen by English bookmaker sources.

India appeared to be set to post a massive total when they reached 267-1 after a dazzling 111 from Sachin Tendulka, for his 48th one-day hundred, but they ended up losing their last nine wickets in nine overs for just 29 runs.

“For 15 overs up front we took an absolute beating but for 75 we played some incredible cricket,” said Smith after the three-wicket win.

“Chasing 300 on that deck, second innings was a hell of an effort from the guys and I think we’re all pretty speechless at the moment.”

He mentioned that at the start of their innings India’s openers put his side under “massive pressure”, but the Proteas had “showed a lot of composure.”

“When we got our chance we took it with some great bowling by Dale and a couple of the other guys chipped in,” he said.

“To get over the line chasing for us is just a massive thing.”

And he also said that they learned lessons both from the defeat against England and the victory made over the host nation, and English bookmaker services see this as a very good thing.

“The confidence you get out of a win like this is huge so hopefully we can build on this now.”
