Kolkata pip Chennai by 10 runs via D/L method

The 'packed' Eden Gardens stadium here witnessed their home-side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the league stage match against current champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 runs under Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) on Saturday evening.

The Kolkata outfit thoroughly dominated the stage on Saturday as they restricted CSK to a low total of 114 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Chasing the target of 115 for victory KKR had scored 61 runs for the loss of two wickets in 10 overs of their innings when rains interrupted the game.

KKR was announced the winners of the match under D/L method as the home-side was far ahead as far the run rate was concerned.

J. Kallis (21*) and local lad Manoj Tiwary (15*) were at the crease when rain spoilt the party for MS Dhoni and his side.

E. Morgan and Gautam Gambhir were the two batsmen whose wickets were picked up by CSK bowlers.

Spinner Ashwin scalped the wickets of both Gambhir and Morgan in the match.

Earlier, the Chennai batsmen were restricted to 114 for the loss of four wickets by KKR bowlers.

Young Abdulla and Brett Lee bowled terrific in the game and helped the home-side maintain an upperhand all through the match.

With this victory, actor and KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan felt more relaxed for his side. He was present at the stadium on Saturday evening to cheer for his Knights.

I. Abdulla was declared the 'Player of the Match' at the end of the game.
