Not thinking about India comeback: Rohit

A fitter look, and a few good knocks in the Indian Premier League. The super-talented Rohit Sharma is now ready for an India comeback.

However, the young turk, having missed out on being part of a World Cup winning team, claims he isn't even giving that pleasant prospect a thought.

"I don't want to think too much about that. I am taking one thing at a time. I just want to concentrate on the IPL. I want to win the trophy for Mumbai. By thinking too much you just confuse yourself," Rohit said, after stroking a wonderful 32-ball 49, that included three massive sixes, to star in a 32-run win for the Mumbai Indians over the Delhi Daredevils on Saturday night here at the Wankhede.

Rohit's inconsistency at the international level has seen him getting dropped time and again despite his wonderful ability. Even Yuvraj Singh feels that Rohit would do injustice to his wonderful talent if he made anything less than 8,000 to 10,000 runs in Tests. However, Rohit hasn't even sealed a spot for himself in the ODIs. "That is gone. I don't want to think about the past now. I am doing well now and want to concentrate on it," he said.

That kind of focus has seen Rohit score 282 runs in 10 games at 56.40 in the tournament. And he looks for many more.

Summarising his IPL 4 performance so far, Rohit said: "It has been up and down so far. Whatever limited opportunities I have got I think I have done well. I am hitting the ball well. I want to continue doing that till the end," he said.

Bolstered by his lean frame, he has fielded brilliantly too. The catch he took to dismiss Kings XI Punjab's David Hussey on Monday was a classic example. Clearly, Jonty Rhodes (MI fielding coach) has been a good influence. "Jonty has been a big help for us in this department. His fielding drills before the tournament have had an effect," Rohit gushed.

With their eighth win in the League, MI are almost through to the play-off with 16 points under their belt. The table-toppers, though, won't take foot off the accelerator, because it is only a spot in the top two that guarantees a berth in the final. "As of now we cannot take it easy. We want to be right at the top till we go into the semis (playoffs). We have four more games to go and other teams are also doing well. So we don't want to relax. We have to go and play our best cricket in the remaining games," Rohit said.

With Rohit at his best, MI should be at their best too. Somewhere in his mind, he should start thinking about the tour to the West Indies too. This time, he shouldn't let his India cap slip away. With Ambati Rayudu, S Badrinath, Manoj Tiwary and Suresh Raina all batting superbly, and jostling for a berth in the Indian middle-order, Rohit would need to be on his toes all the time. The refreshing attitude that this Mumbai youngster has displayed so far this season, shows that he is up for the challenge.
