Hope to succeed vs Steyn: Kallis

As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Deccan Chargers (DC) gear up for their clash today, there is another duel brewing in the opposite ranks. Proteas teammates Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis get ready to strut their stuff against each other for their respective IPL teams. 

 

The KKR all-rounder said on Sunday he was looking forward to the contest.

“Looking forward to the battle with Dale... Hopefully I can come out on top.”

Kallis however, added: “It is not only Steyn, everyone with the ball in their hand, in the opposition can pose a tough challenge.”

Speaking to the media on the eve of the match, Kallis said that the team was still settling down. 

“Everybody will take a little time to settle down. It’s the start of the new IPL. Everybody is getting to know each other.

“We have some talented youngsters as well.”

Asked to rate the opponents, he said: “Deccan Chargers are a good side. Every side is dangerous in Twenty20 cricket. You cannot take anyone for granted in T20.”

On their inaugural match, which they lost by 2 runs, Kallis accepted that mistakes were made and lessons were learnt.

“Perhaps we fell short by a couple of runs because of the inexperience. We should have a successful season if we can plan our cricket. Hopefully, we have a successful season ahead of us.”

He also admitted that the fielding needed improvement as was amply proven in the last match.

“We learnt a few things from the last match. Our fielding needs some work… It was our first match and we faced the last season’s champions.”
