Mumbai Lose despite Sachin's Ton

Sachin Tendulkar's unbeaten century off 66 deliveries went in vain as Brendon McCullum (81 from 60) and Mahela Jayawardene (56 from 36) pulled off a stunning run chase, chasing down 182 helping Kochi Tuskers Kerala beat Mumbai Indians by eight wickets at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.

Skipper Jayawardene, who made three changes to the team, replacing Murali,Sreesanth and VVS Laxman with Thisara Perera, Ramesh Powar and Kedar Jadhav, won the toss and elected to field, but got off to a bad start as a trademark Tendulkar straight drive in the first over set the tone for a humongous total.

Tendulkar looked in ominous touch hitting Vinay Kumar and Perera for consecutive fours in the fourth and the sixth overs. Jacobs at the other end looked a little bit subdued and out of touch and he finally departed the ninth over when Gomez cleaned up the South African for 12. Rayudu, the hero of the last match for Mumbai Indians, immediately created an impact hitting consecutive sixes off Gomez, one over long on and other over extra cover adding 18 runs in the 11th over with Sachin Tendulkar.

Rayudu looked the aggressive of the two in the beginning but from the 14th over both the batsmen launched a onslaught hitting 14 and 12 runs off Jadeja and Powar respectively and then 20 runs off Vinay Kumar in the 16th over, including two sixes and a four from Tendulkar as he brought up his half-century from 43 deliveries, while Rayudu brought up his half-century from 29 deliveries.

The pair added 116 runs from 11.2 overs before Rayudu was finally run out in the final over. Tendulkar needed 10 runs to complete his maiden century in IPL, he hit a boundary off the third ball of the final over and the very next ball he took a chance going for a two but a good throw from the deep saw Rayudu depart for a well made 53 off 33 balls with three hits to the fence and two over it.

Tendulkar then hit the fifth ball of the over for a four over long on leaving him one to get from the last delivery to complete his century and he did it dancing down the track and hitting a low full-toss towards extra cover to complete his century off 66 balls taking Mumbai Indians to 182. His innings included twelve hits to the fence and three over it.

Chasing 182, Kochi Tuskers Kerala got off to a lucky start as McCullum was dropped by Rohit Sharma in the slips off the first ball of the innings, following the drop, McCullum and Jayawardene went berserk hitting Malinga for four boundaries in just the third over, Malinga was put to the sword as he was hit for 22 runs from his first two overs.

The pair went on to add 128 runs in 14 overs before Jayawardene was finally cleaned up by Malinga for 56 in his comeback spell. With 56 required from 36 balls, McCullum added 28 runs from 20 balls with Jadeja before he was cleaned up by Malinga, trying to go for a scoop shot but missing out completely.

McCullum hit 81 from 60 balls including 10 hits to the fence and two over it. With 27 required from 17 balls Hodge hit two boundaries off Malinga in the 18th over to bring the equation down to 19 from 12. Jadeja finished off the game with one over to spare, hitting two sixes and a boundary off Ali Murtaza to pull off a stunning chase winning the match comprehensively by eight wickets. Jadeja remained not out on 25 from 11 balls with two hits to the fence and two over it.

Brendon McCullum was named the man of the match for his match winning innings of 81 from 60 deliveries.
