AB de Villiers (54 not out) helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kochi Tuskers Kerala by six wickets in their opening match of IPL 4 at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Saturday.
De Villiers smashed five huge sixes and a four in his 40-ball match-winning innings as RCB chased down 162-run target easily with eight balls to spare.
De Villiers added a crucial 52-run stand with Saurabh Tiwary for the fourth wicket. Tiwary hit two fours in his patient 24-ball 26 innings.
Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Mayank Agarwal, who hit a huge six off Muralitharan's first ball, in the tenth over to RCB to 85/3. Mayank smashed two huge sixes and two fours in his impressive 24-ball 33 innings.
Vinay Kumar and S Sreesanth struck in their first overs to halt RCB's run-chase as they dismissed Kohli and Dilshan respectively. Kohli hit four boundaries in his 18-ball innings and added 41 runs for the second wicket with Mayank.
Earlier, Brendon McCullum and VVS Laxman's 80-run opening stand helped newcomers Kochi Tuskers Kerala score 161/5 against Royal Challengers.
McCullum hit two huge sixes and four boundaries in his 32-ball 45 innings before Virat Kohli dismissed him in the twelfth over.
Tillakaratne Dilshan dismissed Laxman in the ninth over to give Challengers a crucial breakthrough. Laxman hit two sixes and two fours in his quick-fire 29-ball 36 innings.
Kochi openers started their innings aggressively and punished all Challengers' bowlers as they raced to 50 in 5.3 overs.
